The Best Of Jim Davidson
In 1979, I began a daily radio program titled, “How to Plan Your Life” and it has now been carried by more than 300 radio stations coast- to-coast and heard by thousands of people each day. This book is a collection of 60 of my most requested individual programs, and they cover a wide range of topics and subject matter. But most of all it is a book of hope encouragement and inspiration and is meant to lift your spirits and renew your faith in God and your fellow human beings.
Here is what Dr. Ben McNew, retired professor from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, had to say after reading it: “The Best of Jim Davidson is a collection of vignettes meant to encourage and inspire. It does that with 60 short stories covering common-sense tenets ranging from the comical, innovative, and motivational to the sad, restorative and eternal. It is a good read. It is pertinent to the defiant times we are experiencing. It is divergent in its presentation.
“These vignettes are usually wrapped with stage-setting comments and autoreactive questions. Such additions, stemming from their threshold radio broadcasts add welcome weight and meaning. Another feature of this treatise is what the author calls a ‘bathroom book’. This term is not one in general use, but its application here refers to reading a few minutes at a time. In fact, the stories contain such deep thoughts and principles that a reader will need to stop and think about them before going on.
“Not often is it necessary to point out the usefulness of the extras that accompany a written work but it is in this book. For anyone who has need of speech material, of reference to wise ideas, or a list covering any number of desirable practices, The Table of Contents and the Subject Index in this book will lead quickly to the topics presented. I enjoyed the book as it mentions (sometimes in prose, sometimes in poetry) life-changing ideas, values to live by, natural laws that control, and manifold other precepts. For full disclosure, I have been friends with Jim Davidson a long time, and I believe this book reflects very well his positive mindset – one that can be useful to people.”
In addition to your own personal needs there may be other ways the ideas in this book can be put to good use. Some time back a man in Foley, Alabama, told me he uses one of these programs to begin their Rotary program each week. A school secretary reports that she uses many of the positive quotes and poems in their monthly newsletter. Then, too, many people have said, “I hope you don’t mind I used one of the stories in your book in a speech I made the other day.”
To be sure, there is something truly worthwhile in this book for everyone. Here are just a few of the many titles: Do You Have Class, The Lincoln-Kennedy Amazing Coincidences, Your Decisions Will Affect Your Family, The High Cost of Getting Even, Do You Act or React?, I Loved You Enough, The Slight Edge – It Takes Only Two Percent, Some Straight Talk That Paid Off, Teach the Kids to Say Yes Sir, No Sir, Please, Thank You and You’re Welcome.
Since I have learned that the three keys to learning are No. 1. Repetition, No. 2. Repetition, and No. 3, is also Repetition. I read two chapters each morning during my devotional time. This means I can read the whole book through each month and I have been doing this for several months now. I plan to continue for a long time to come. You can’t go wrong by investing in this book. Just one really great idea can mean a return of a thousand fold. As the slogan on this website says, “The quality of our lives, our success and happiness, will be determined by the quality of our ideas.”
