Not Since the days of Ben Franklin’s “Poor Richard’s Almanack” has a book come along that is so good, Every Home Needs a Copy

There is an old saying that goes, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” If you are a member of the elite “Tough Group”, I have some exciting news to share with you. This year, 2020, I am celebrating 50 years in the people business. My goal all these years has been to help other people become more successful, and use more of their God-given potential in their lives. As the slogan on my website says, “The quality of our lives, our success and happiness, will be determined by the quality of our ideas.” The first 10 years of my working career was spent building the foundation for a successful life that has turned out to be one of great joy and satisfaction, and one that can definitely help you.

My story began in 1958 when, as a college dropout, I made my way to Little Rock, Arkansas, where I had family and soon found a job in the printing business. This is where I would spend 12 years, seven in production and five in sales. Then in 1968 I took the Dale Carnegie Course, and received the “gavel” as leader of the class. Two years later, my instructor, the late Bob Gannaway, came to me with an offer to go into business with him to distribute the Earl Nightingale attitude motivation programs that were produced on cassette. Would you believe, in 1970 I quit a job where I was earning $25,000 a year, to accept his offer?

Since “attitude” was the buzz word for educators in those days, it did not take me long to realize that schools were the best prospects for our materials. The school people embraced me with open arms and not only bought our materials, but invited me to speak to their faculties, student bodies, commencements and conferences. In the decade of the 1970’s I spoke to more than 500 educational groups. Now, here was the turning point for me. The late Earl Nightingale, with his golden voice, was known as the Dean of Personal Motivation. He recorded the ‘wisdom of the ages’ on cassette and I listened to his tapes in my car, repetitiously, each year for 50,000 miles, for more than 10 years. These “ideas” were deeply imbedded in my sub-conscious mind. (More in the book about this.)

These ideas proved to be the foundation for a daily radio program titled “How to Plan Your Life,” that would be carried by over 300 radio stations, coast to coast. In 1995 I began a nationally syndicated newspaper column that would be carried by more than 365 newspapers in 35 states. The book I am presenting to you here, “Better than the Best,” contains more than 60 of the best columns, from the 1,300 I have written. This book literally contains hundreds of great ideas. Some of the titles include: The Happy Loser, A Test for First Time Parents, A Man After My Own Heart, Welfare and Unwed Mothers, The Greatest Profession of Them All, The History of American Legion Baseball, A Television Show with Class, JoVoni Johnson: A True Success Story, A Member of the Family, Ever Been in Cahoots, The Shoji Tabuchi Story, Who Held Your Ladder” and more than 50 more. You talk about great ideas, this book is truly “Better than the Best.” Hope you will pass the word along by telling your friends, family, co-workers, fellow church members and others about it.
